GÉBRAËL
Gébraël was born in Montpellier in 1991, to a craftsman father who taught him the basics of artistic painting, and a librarian mother who whetted his appetite for eclectic literature. His childhood was bathed between the Cevennes rivers and the Mediterranean Sea, and since 2007 he has been practicing graffiti.
The urgency to paint and the impulse felt around an active and subversive repetition are the starting point for a reflection on this practice which remains controversial, yet leaves a mark visible to all.
In 2010, a depigmentation of skin cells deeply marked his hands and face. These white spots, whose mysterious presence initially disturbs, later become a source of aesthetic and spiritual inspiration.
The buried violence and loss of psychic capacity resulting from events in his own or his loved ones’ past often form the basis of his reflections and guide his aesthetic research.
Since some times he tries to dedicate most of his free time to create some artworks that can raise funds for Gaza people and campaigns for a free Palestine.
100% of money made from Gebraël’s designs through Revolting Threads will be shared between the Gazan artists, and charities and NGOs, providing aid on the ground in Gaza - full list on our CHARITY page.
